California State Games - Presidents' Day Weekend
Cougars end season on a high note
February 18-20, 2011
The Cougars Peewee 99AA team finished its season with a four-game sweep at the California State Games
in San Diego over Presidents' Day Weekend. The other AA teams originally signed up to play did
not commit in the end, so the boys played four exhibition games against A level squads. Play was
sharp all around, and the team had three shutouts in four games. Results showed that the team
was probably a "tweener" this season - one that struggled at AA but would likely have experienced
lopsided games in their favor against A level competition.
Cougars 9, Santa Clara Blackhawks A 3
The Cougars scored four times in the first five minutes, and running clock began halfway through Period 1.
Cougars 7, Valencia Express A 0
This game was close for two periods, as Valencia's defense was excellent, particularly its goalie.
The Cougars broke the game open with six goals in the third period.
Cougars 8, Anaheim Wildcats A 0
Anaheim came out physical, but the Cougars matched their checks from the start and then took control
with superior skill. In the final analysis, the Cougars dominated throughout against the eventual
A tournament champions.
Cougars 6, Dallas Penguins A 0
The Dallas Penguins put up a valiant fight, but the Cougars had too much firepower and broke the game
open late in Period 2.
