KYLE AND THE COUGARS BLANK SANTA CLARA 3-0 TO CLOSE OUT THE STATE TOURNAMENT AND THE 2008-09 SEASON

The Cougars got a well deserved shutout of the Blackhawks to finish a great and successful Squirt A season as NorCal Champions and third place in the State Finals.  Kyle ended the season with a huge game and a shutout, ending a great tournament for the Squirt goalie.  The defensive units of Sebastian, Kurt, Paul and Ryan had a solid game, helping maintain the shutout for the Cougars.  Aaron, Jackson, John, Tristan, Vinny, Jack, Will and Justin also contributed to the win and shutout with hard play and defensive help for the whole game.

With 5:43 left in the first period, Will put a nice hard backhand into the one-hole that the goalie couldn’t handle and ended up sweeping his glove toward the goal and losing the puck in the net, with the help of Jack coming in and stabbing at the glove.  The first period ended Cougars 1, Blackhawks 0.

Kyle had an outstanding glove save on a breakaway at the 8:46 mark of the second period, he stood his ground and waited for the shot and snagged it in mid air for the save.  The Cougars missed out on scoring in the second when a 5-on-3 and the ensuing 5-on-4 did not produce.  More good defense and goal play led to another goose egg for the Blackhawks in the second, Cougars 1, Blackhawks 0.

With a couple minutes passed in the third period, Vinny chased a pass from John behind the net and shot the puck into the back of the goalie and in the net for a goal, Cougars 2, Santa Clara 0.  The third period continued with great goaltending and defense, killing several penalties and with one notable save at the 6:30 mark to blank the Blackhawks and end the game with a well deserved shutout for Kyle.  Tristan started the play for the final goal when he passed it up to Justin in the middle of the ice and then Justin shot it through the 4-hole for a score, Cougars 3, Blackhawks 0 - FINAL.

After a close call in the final minutes, Game Over and Season Over.  From the parents; We would like to Congratulate and Thank Coach Dave, Coach Jerry and Coach Chris on a great, memorable season.  And to the Squirts and NorCal Champions, Thank You and Congratulations on a great and exciting season.  How about them Cougars!!!!!
