Cougars Give All in Loss to Blackhawks

March 7, 2009

The Cougars played their final game of the season against the first place Santa Clara Blackhawks A1.  The Blackhawks scored the games first goal late in the first period after a tentative start by both teams.  The Cougars were determined not to let their opponents get away from them and the second period was scoreless with good scoring chances on both sides.  The teams continued to battle in the third period with the Blackhawks adding another goal.  The Cougars did not give up and with 3:45 remaining scored to set up an exciting finish.  Unfortunately the Cougars could not score again and the Blackhawks added an empty net goal.  Overall the game showed the tremendous improvement of the Cougars over the course of the year.

The statistics are broken into Regular season and Preseason/Exhibiton/Tournament.  They are not perfect as they rely on on the scoresheets and I know of at least 2 instances where goals have been credited to the wrong player by the referee (don't even get me started about assists!).  Overall please remember that hockey is a team game and individual statistics often do not capture many aspects of the game or players contributions.
