Cougars and Capital Thunder Play Another Thriller
Capital Thunder 4, Cougars 3
March 7
These two teams have played the season series as tight as you can play, coming away with two ties to show for their hard
fought efforts. This was the rubber match, which team will take the advantage between the two. Capital Thunder
struck first within the first minute and a half of the game, Cougars 0 Capital Thunder 1.
The Cougars responded just as quickly when Timmy passed the puck to Justin D who took the shot, the goalie
blocked it but it kicked right back to him and Justin D put the rebound in for a goal, Cougars 1 Capital Thunder 1.
Again, Capital Thunder responded at the 10:33 mark of the first period, Cougars 1 Capital Thunder 2. This was a very
quick start to the game to say the least.
After some good saves by Kyle and two separate penalty kills by the team, Capital Thunder broke through again with
1:03 left in the first period, Cougars 1 Capital Thunder 3. The penalty kill team shut down another chance for Roseville
as the carry over penalty was stomped in the beginning of the second period. At the 12:20 mark of the second period the
Cougars were unsuccessful on their first power play. Although, with 8:22 left to play in the second period the Cougars
scored on their next power play opportunity when from behind the net Alexander passed the puck to Ryan who
charged the side of the net and scored a goal, Cougars 2 Capital Thunder 3.
Within the next few seconds, Tyler went to dump the puck into the offensive zone and put a shot on goal, but the
Roseville goalie had a little trouble and the puck went through the 5-hole for another score to tie the game up, Cougars 3
Capital Thunder 3. Kyle continued with some more good saves to keep the game tied. The two teams shut out
each other in their respective power play opportunities to end the second period and carry over to the third period.
At the 8:27 mark of the third period Capital Thunder scored to go ahead, Cougars 3 Capital Thunder 4. The Cougars had
a chance to tie the game up with 8:08 left to play on a power play, but they were denied. Kyle kept the game
close with a great save during a Cougar man advantage. Capital Thunder continued to play good defense and shut out the
Cougars the rest of the way, despite the Cougars 6-on-4 advantage with 23 seconds to play, one puck hitting the post and one
puck flying just over the top bar. Final score Cougars 3 Capital Thunder 4.
Kyle saved 31 of 35 shots for the game and the Cougars had 22 shots on goal.
