California Cougars vs. Santa Clara
Blackhawks
California Cougars skated to
3-3 tie with Santa Clara Blackhawks at Bridgepointe in Bantam B
game
The California Cougars built a 3-1 lead and hung on for a 3-3 tie as
Carson Murison made 29 acrobatic saves
to foil a comeback bid by the Santa Clara Blackhawks at Bridgepointe
on Saturday, Oct. 15.
After the Blackhawks took the early lead, Pace Farbstein
tied it as he collected a perfectly saucered pass from Chase Bolling and went top-shelf with a wicked wrister
from the right faceoff circle.
The Cougars unleashed its vaunted special teams skills, as the
powerplay unit came through when Tom
Beebe headmanned the puck to
Bolling, who dished it to Nash Berkowitz, and the big center lit the red light for
the 2-1 lead 5:24 into the middle frame.
Just 2:36 later the team built on its “MO” (momentum) as the Bo-Ro-Do line of the Cougars
struck again when John BOhac
took a pass from center Matthew
LyDOn and found Adam
ROsenduft open in the slot,
and he sniped home a forehand.
With staunch defense from Max
Frenkel and Elliot Salazar, the Cougars held the
3-1 lead after two periods. But :21 into the third frame, and just
after a penalty expired, the Blackhawks struck for the first of 2
third-period goals. The second came on a scramble in front of the
net, but some stellar backchecking by Shura Boz
and
Daniel Schmidt prevented the Blackhawks
from taking the lead.
