Tri Valley Blue Devils AA 7, Cougars 99AA 4

December 18, 2010

The Cougars 99AAs are getting back to full srength, and the team played its best game in quite a while this past weekend, falling to Tri Valley by a score of 7-4. The play was fairly even after a tough opening three minutes, but Tri Valley answered each time the Cougars closed within a goal, and an empty netter with 3 seconds left made the final a three-goal game.

The Cougars started slow - two breaks and odd-man rushes yielded quick goals, and an own-goal tip past the Cougars goalie made it 3-0 only a few minutes into Period 1. However, the Cougars closed the gap with spirited play by the first line and ended the first down 3-2. Tri Valley countered early in the second on a power play, but the Cougars closed to 4-3. In the third, Tri Valley added a goal on a delayed penalty call, but the Cougars again rallied to make it 5-4.

In the end, Tri Valley responded to the Cougars with a sixth goal, and that proved too much for the 99s. The Cougars pulled their goalie and put some pressure on with the extra attacker, but Tri Valley pumped in its seventh goal just before the clock expired.

Coming off this strong showing, the Cougars travel to Lakewood, CA for the Holiday Cup Invitational and hope to gain some momentum going into the new year.
