Cougars 99AA 1, Tri Valley Blue Devils AA 1

October 9, 2010

The Cougars 99AA squad and the Tri Valley Blue Devils AA played to a 1-1 tie at Bridgepointe on Saturday. The game was somewhat sloppy but entertaining, and it was definitely influenced by numerous penalties on both teams. The Cougars finished with 11 penalties and Tri Valley had 8. Both teams had many opportunities, with 23 Cougars shots and 31 Tri Valley shots, but the game ended with only two pucks in the net.

The Cougars scored first, on a power play late in Period 1, with a nifty drive down the right side, dish in front of the net and a beautiful, quick finish. The Cougars goaltending was outstanding again this week, with several supurb saves. The Blue Devils scored with about 4 minutes left in Period 3 on a nice move that created a breakaway and left the Cougars goalie vulnerable. Applying pressure and getting a few chances at the end, the Cougars couldn't capitalize, and the game ended in a tie.

While this game was considered "pre-season," the teams face off again next Saturday, in a league game at Vallco.
