HEARTBREAK IN THE CITY
March 3, 2007
The Cougars travelled into the city for a game coinciding with
the start of the Chinese New Years Day Parade. Again the Cougars
started strongly scoring at 7:23 of the first period (G:Sam Brewer)
- surpisingly this is the exact same time and the same Cougar
as the opening goal scored against Stockton by the Cougars last
week. San Francisco came back to tie the score late in the first period
and again to take the lead late in the second period. The Cougars fought
back with three straight goals (G:Jonathon Purcell A:Jack Bragg),
(G:Matan Geller), (G: Danny Black PP). The Sabrecats got
one back half a minute after the Cougars last goal and the score
was Cougars 4 - Sabrecats 3. The score stayed this way until
the final half minute of the game when the Sabrecats tied the game after
a lucky bounce broke up some sustained Cougar pressure. Although
it was a disappointing end result, this was a very strong team effort
with all the goals resulting from the Cougars executing fundamentals
that their coaches have been emphasizing in practice - getting the puck
deep, keeping your head up and hitting the net when you shoot. Goalie
Adam Scianna stopped 19 of 23 shot.
