Our second tournament game was against the Anaheim Jr. Ducks and it was played at 1:50 on Friday afternoon. We started much better than in the early morning game. The fans of the Cougars Mites think that we should not play in the morning at all, because these young kids play so much better in the afternoon games.

Before one minute was played of this exciting and dramatic game, Justin had a beautiful shot on goal but the goal moved and it did not count. Less than a minute later, Garan had a breakaway and scored our first goal. The fans were all excited because just a minute later Steven stopped a breakaway in the other end. The first period ended 1 - 0 in our favor. Our defense was working hard and did an awsome job.

Will scored two breakaway goals making the score 3 - 0 before one and a half minutes had been played of the second. The Ducks got a couple of penalties and Spencer almost scored a goal. We are not quite sure why the goal was not accepted. The kids did not notice that and were having a great time celebrating the goal anyway. Next it was Will's turn to stay 2 minutes in the penalty box. Tristan was doing great work in defense and helped to make sure that the Ducks were not able to score. Before the period ended, Tyler had his 2 minutes penalty. Vanny got a breakaway but failed to score that time. He was not happy about this, but he did not yet know that he will actually score in the third!

In the third period Garan got another breakaway goal, making it 4 - 0. Our game relaxed and we started to see more and more passing. And here it comes: Vanny scored a beautiful goal (5 - 0) from - if possible - even more beautiful assist by Garan. Felix was hustling hard - a little too hard and ended having a slashing penalty. Fortunately it did not give the other team an advantage - Justin scored our sixth and final goal shorthanded.

Even though several penalties were called in this game for both teams, maybe some more should have been called. The fans were upset to see Will, Kaz and Justin lay on the ice for a while after they had been highsticked, crosschecked or boarded. Hey, these are Mites!
