California Cougars 5, Santa Rosa Flyers 0

Mar. 4, 2006

We're in Santa Rosa for our last game against this opponent. Although our drives may have been peaceful, things were not that way on the ice. The Cougars arrived ready to post a win on the board, and the Flyers showed up looking for a fight.

Our domination started in the first period where we outshot them 11-4. The goose egg on the scoreboard went away right after Matt Hopper planted the feed from Mauricio Schmidt in the net.

SCORE Cougars 1 - Flyers 0.

With the penalties starting to accumulate in the second period, the Cougars found themselves short-handed. Steven- Paul Stichler broke away and fired one at the goalie. It rebounded right where Mauricio Schmidt was waiting. Mauricio popped the puck over the pads, and the Cougars now had a more comfortable lead.

SCORE Cougars 2 - Flyers 0.

The Flyers are showing frustration, and their penalties keep mounting. Behind the action things are getting heated, and the gloves and fists are flying. One of theirs and one of ours are gone for fisticuffs. Parents in the stands are startled because it's Kenzo Nakamura, not one of our usual enforcers.

On the penalty kill again in the third, Kyle Kiaski found the puck and passed it to Brad Cecil. Brad found Matt Adams, and in she went. Whew - no more 2 goal lead.

SCORE Cougars 3 - Flyers 0.

Time for the Kiaski Connection to kick it into gear. Kyle digs the puck out and feeds it to Kevin, who quickly passes if off to Alex Ochowicz, who scores! Keep it up boys, the fun is just getting started.

SCORE Cougars 4 - Flyers 0.

Special bonus points go to Ryan Glowniak halfway thru the third, taking the puck in solo and really working it to get the final goal. We loved the triple loop and double salchow before you neatly placed the puck into the corner of the net.

SCORE Cougars 5 - Flyers 0.

And it holds thru the final buzzer... The shot count said it all as the Cougars outshot the Flyers 43-10.

This was the first of the three W 's that are needed to get you into Norcal.
It's do able - we believe. Words of wisdom as you prepare, "Losers quit when they're tired; winners quit when they've won."

You've got a job to do boys. Come back and get it done.
