Final Weekend Showdowns
Cougars Dominate But Can't Find Back Of Net In 3-1 Loss To Wild
End Season With 6-1 Loss In Berkeley
March 20
The season ended today with a 6-1 late-night loss in Berkeley. The Cougars played pretty well the first
two periods, being down just 2-1 as they headed into the third. But as this writer has noted multiple
times over the season on this page, it's a 45 minute game, and the floodgates opened early in the third
when the Bulldogs scored three times. And that was all she wrote.
March 19
The last weekend of the season kicked off today against the High Sierra Wild at Bridgepointe, to be followed
by a late night season-concluding game against the Berkeley Bulldogs tomorrow night.
The Cougars came out today strong and threw rubber at the net. Over and over again. 44 times in
fact, and that doesn't count all the ones that went just high or wide. But the High Sierra goalie was
up to the task, and threw aside 43 of the Cougars shots most without even a rebound.
The Wild on the other hand were a little more conservative in their shooting, but they made theirs count.
Just 18 shots, and they converted three of them and skated off with a 3-1 win.
The Cougars looked good though, especially in transition and in their offensive end. Really good puck
movement and they used their points well. Their only goal came midway through the second period, when
Kyle Holder netted his first of the year to make the game 2-1 and the Cougars were right in it.
That is until they gave up another shorthanded goal early in the third. And that's how this testy,
penalty-filled little battle would end.
