9/27/03 - Cougars lose to Santa Rosa Flyers 3-1 We're not sure if what they were playing could be called hockey, as there
was so much "snow" on the ice, due to mechanical problems with the
zamboni. A very physical game, mixed in with some very questionable penalties/goals,
and poor ice, but hey…that's the way the puck bounced.
1st Period
- Cougar's started the period very strong; swarming the net, just couldn't get anything to go.
- Outstanding saves made by goalie #20 Eric Berner
- Several great scoring chances from #77 Rickey Niday and #9 Jeff Adams
- Great penalty killing resulted in no power play goals
2nd Period
- Cougars continued the offensive attack with great scoring opportunities from #10 Alan Nguyen, #47 Jordan Fragoza, and #2 Kevin Heyl
- Cougar penalty resulted in a Flyer goal (looked like it was knocked in with a high-stick; goal stands)
- #9 Jeff Adams had great shorthanded opportunity; good goaltending by Flyers
- Shorthanded goal by #7 Max DeLance to even up the score
3rd Period
- Flyers scored (player was in the crease; goal stands)
- Cougars came right back with some great work from line combination of #25 Alan Reese, #11 Nathan Ellison, and #4 Chase Johnson
- Good work down deep by #26 Brian Townsend
- Great saves by #20 Eric Berner to keep the Cougars within a goal
- Cougars gave up a shorthanded goal giving Santa Rosa a 3-1 lead
Summary: A somewhat frustrating and exciting game for Cougar parents (Remember:
remain calm especially when calls don't go our way). Cougars had great goaltending
and plenty of opportunities to score, but just couldn't capitalize. Better
luck next time!!! Moving forward to the next game…..the undefeated San
Jose Jr. Sharks!!!
