Period 3
10/18/03 - Cougars scored 4 power play goals to beat Tri-Valley Blue Devils 6-3.
Cougars started the first period with some outstanding scoring chances from
the line combination of #14 Josh Bautista, #17 Conor Sullivan, and #27
Brett DeLorenzi. The Cougars also got themselves into penalty trouble early
in the period; fortunately, the Blue Devils weren't able to capitalize on
the man advantage. Goaltender #20 Eric Berner came up with some outstanding
saves, but was unable to stop a blistering shot from the blue-line. Although
the Cougars had several more opportunities to score, the Blue Devils goalie
kept the Cougars off the scoreboard.
The Blue Devils found themselves in penalty trouble early in the second period.
#11 Nathan Ellison, who drew the penalty, was able to score on the power
play. The Blue Devils came right back with a breakaway goal to take back the
lead. With some great work behind the net, #27 Brett DeLorenzi was able to
score his first goal of the game. Once again the Blue Devils got themselves
in penalty trouble, and Cougars #10 Alan Nguyen was able score a beauty from
the blue-line. At this point, the Cougars never looked back. #10 Alan Nguyen
scored his second power play goal of the game. Next power play goal came from
#9 Jeff Adams, from #25 Alan Reese. #27 Brett DeLorenzi scored his second
goal of the game to give the Cougars a 6-2 lead. The Blue Devils were able
to score one more goal late in the period.
The third period was full of Blue Devil penalties, as the Cougars continued
to converge to the net. Neither team was able to score, thanks to some great
saves at both ends.
Summary: Great goaltending, great penalty killing, terrific power plays, and
outstanding work around the net proved a winning combination. For those injured
Cougar players
we hope to see you on the ice soon. Bring on the regular
season!!! Go Cougars!!!!!
