Membership Report on 2002/2003 Survey Results

The following is a summary of the results of the 2002/2003 Season Survey that was distributed to the Cougars teams last month.  Thanks to everyone who took the time to submit a response, and your honesty and candor are appreciated.  It will only help in making the future of the Cougars stronger.

The amount of responses was much lower than anticipated (approx. 25%), although that is being attributed to most players and parents being satisfied with the status quo - although it would have been nice to hear that as well.

A more detailed report is with the Cougars organization and the Friends of the Cougars (FOC).  Each comment and concern from the responses will be looked at and discussed.  That doesn't mean every suggestion can be implemented for a variety of reasons, but they all will be evaluated.

This report to the membership is intended for your information as a member of the 2002/2003 Cougars.

Some highlights include:
- There were some GREAT Team Managers this season.  Nothing but absolute praise in the work these people did for their teams.
- Utmost respect for the coaches at all levels of the organization.

A true reflection of how the season went is an overwhelming majority replied they would play for their coach again and will tryout for the Cougars next season.  This doesn't mean there aren't things to be improved upon, or critical comments will be ignored, but it's much easier to improve than overhaul.

Some concerns that were raised include:
- Late Friday night practices are tough, especially at the younger levels, and more ice time in general.
- Reminders to the players (and parents) on the expectations of their conduct on and off the ice, and the ramifications to them and the organization.
- Communication needs some improvement, mainly early in season with first-year players and parents.
- Jerseys and Warm-ups arrived too late.  Team photos are important.

There were many suggestions received for improving the organization for next season.  All will be evaluated, but here's a sampling:
- Fundraising or sponsors to offset program costs
- More coordination between coaches
- Promote organization more / both in-house and outside
- Skills clinics during season
- Some rink improvements:
Vallco:  Increase viewing areas, including moving vending machines from next to the glass.   Bridgepointe:  Shades or blinds on the windows to reduce glare during day games.

As a reminder to the membership, the Friends of the Cougars meetings are intended to communicate between teams and from, and to, the organization.  The FOC has committed to scheduling monthly meetings next season and publicizing the agendas ahead of time.  All parents are automatically members of the FOC (although some votes are only 1 per team).  You can simply come and listen and learn, or bring up topics to be discussed.
