| | Cougars Continue Domination of Bears With 10-0 WinFebruary 10, 2002 The Cougars continued right were they left off on Saturday by blasting the Bears in Oakland 10-0. This game wasn't even as close as the score indicates as the Cougars simply outmanned the Bears in every facet of the game and only a good game by the Bear goaltender kept it from being twice the score.
| | | Greg | The Cougars took advantage of an early lead to work on their passing for the rest of the game and were very successful. The passes looked crisp and right on the mark opening up the ice for many great scoring chances. Shots-on-goal were not recorded for the game, but the Cougar total was probably pretty close to the 63 they had the day before. The scoring was led by Greg Schuck who had a hat trick and a couple of assists. Others scorers included Nick Lavarias and Francis Paquet, who each collected two goals and two assists, Stephen Fragoza and Jeff Adam each had a goal and two assists, and Stephen Lamers got his first goal of the regular season (plus an assist).
The defensive domination continued as well. Very little time was spent in the Oakland end of the ice and very few decent scoring chances were given to the outmanned Bears. The Cougars two defensive lines (Chase Ansok/Nick Morrison and Amber Moore/Ryan Thornton) did a great job and stuffed every opportunity the Bears were given. The final result was another shutout for Jordan Fragoza and the defense.
Next week it's back to Oakland as the Cougars go for defending their "Battle of Bay" championship from last year. This years entries only include three Pee Wee B teams (Cougars, Oakland, Bay Harbor) so each team gets to play four games with the top two advancing to Monday afternoon's championship game. The schedule looks brutal for the Cougars as they have games basically every twelve hours for three days. Home late, up early and lots of time and miles on the road. |
