Sweeeeeet Revenge!

January 12, 2002
The Cougars laid it on the Santa Clara Blackhawks 7-1 today at their second home at Bridgepointe in San Mateo to extend their regular season unbeaten streak to four (3-0-1). The battles with the Blackhawks have developed into a fierce rivalry, with the Blackhawks winning the previous game between the teams 8-6, that snapped a six-game winning streak for the Cougars.

The Cougar offense exploded by pounding a season-high 42 shots on the overmatched Blackhawk goalie. Stephen Fragoza and Nick Lavarias led

the way. Stephen used both his finesse and power to score four goals, including a natural hat trick, and Nick had two goals and two assists. Keaton Ohara also scored his third goal in the past two games.

Defensively, the Cougars were on top of their game. The lines of Augie Lagemann & Alex Lagemann, Chase Ansok & Nick Morrison, and Logan Lichorowic & Ryan Thornton shut down every advance the Blackhawks made. The offense did a great job as well of falling back to support the puck in the defensive end. Anytime the Blackhawks actually made the zone and got the puck deep, someone from the Cougars would clear the zone quickly. Some quick breakout passes led to numerous odd-man rushes for the Cougars.

Jonathan Wilson was also solid again in goal. How well is Jonathan playing? He gave up one goal and his goals-against-average went up! Still is a minuscule 0.67 over the past three games with a save-percentage of .959! Outstanding!

The 3-stars of this game go to: (1) all the forwards, (2) all the defensemen, and (3) our goalie.
