Cougars Remain Unbeaten in Regular Season January 6, 2002 The Cougars tied the Vacaville Vipers in a wild 7-7 shoot-out at Vacaville. The game had a total of seven lead changes as the teams exchanged scoring opportunities, including a goal by each team in the last minute of play (Vacaville's with :21 seconds left). The layoff during the holiday period was apparent for every line on both defenses as they seemed to be a step behind the whole game, and the offensives took advantage of every opportunity.

Leading the charge was Stephen Fragoza and Keaton Ohara with two goals each, Greg Schuck getting his fourth goal of the regular season, and goals by two players recently moved to offense, Ryan Thorton and Amber Moore. The Cougars showed grit and came back from 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 deficits by scoring quick goals, but just couldn't hold onto 5-3 or 6-5 advantages, or a very late 7-6 lead.
The tie is disappointing as they very easily could have had a win, but it is also encouraging as they got a tie in a game they very easily could have lost. |
